Office standby generators for San Antonio offices and data closets
When the power fails, the network closet is what an office cannot lose. A UPS bridges the first moments and a standby generator carries the racks, the cooling and the loads you choose through a long outage. We install it to the drawings, plan every shutdown with your IT team and keep it serviced. Licensed by TDLR and insured for commercial work.
We sell and install Generac home standby and commercial generators.
How does a standby generator keep an office network closet running?
A standby generator keeps a network closet running by taking over from the UPS, which bridges the first moments of an outage. The automatic transfer switch moves the racks, the cooling and the other loads you choose to the generator. We size it from a load study, plan the shutdown with your IT team and test the transfer under load.
What has to stay on
The network closet comes first: its racks, its UPS and the cooling that keeps it running, because equipment is lost to heat as surely as to a power failure. After that the list is yours to set, such as the security system, some lighting, the phones and the workstations the business cannot run without. The design decides whether the cooling rides on the generator, and the size follows the list.

A UPS sits between the utility power and the equipment and bridges the moments before the generator takes the load. We wire its input, its output and its bypass to the manufacturer's drawings, so the closet can be kept running while the UPS itself is serviced. The UPS sizing and the design come from the equipment supplier and the design professional.
A generator is sized from the loads it has to carry and how they start. We measure and list the loads with you, including the cooling units' motors and compressors, and leave room for the racks you plan to add. Where the job calls for stamped drawings, we work from the design professional's plans.
We install and wire the automatic transfer switch and the feeders between the generator, the switch and the distribution, and test the transfer under load with your team watching. The NEC treats standby power as emergency in Article 700, legally required in Article 701 or optional in Article 702, set by the building's design and the authority having jurisdiction. NEC Article 645 applies to information technology equipment rooms that meet its conditions.
A natural gas unit needs a gas line sized for the generator. Gas line and gas connection are not included. That is a licensed plumber's work and we quote it separately. We coordinate the plumber with the electrical work. A diesel unit carries its own fuel tank, and the fuel vendor fills it. Placement is set by the setbacks and the service access the code and the manufacturer call for, and in a leased building it is settled with the property manager first.

Permits, inspection and the shutdown
Inside the city limits, commercial electrical permits go through the City of San Antonio Development Services Department, and the suburban cities run their own permit offices. We pull the electrical permit and meet the inspector. The shutdown to connect the switch is planned with your IT team in writing, scheduled after hours or on a weekend, and the tenants are told in advance through the property manager.

Maintenance and testing
A standby system has to start when it is needed. Scheduled maintenance covers the generator, the batteries and the transfer switch, with written records after each visit, and a maintenance agreement can add infrared scans of the loaded panels that feed the closet.
