When power goes out in part of a home, the first question is whose side the fault is on. If the neighbors are dark too, the outage belongs to the utility. If only your home is affected, or only part of it, the fault is usually somewhere between the meter and your outlets, and that part is ours to find.
Half the house out is a pattern of its own. Most homes are fed by two hot legs, and the breakers in the panel alternate between them. When one leg is lost, at a burned connection in the meter base, a failed main breaker or a loose service conductor, every circuit on that leg goes dark while the rest of the house keeps working.
A single dead room is more often a branch circuit. A breaker can trip without its handle looking tripped, a GFCI in a bathroom or garage can cut power to outlets in another room, and a connection that burns open at one outlet takes every outlet after it on the circuit with it.
Storms bring their own damage. A falling limb can pull down the service drop and bend the mast, and water can get into a meter base or a panel. The utility owns its line and the meter. The mast, the meter base and the panel are usually the owner's to repair, and the utility often will not reconnect until that work is done and, where the city requires it, inspected.
The first thing we do on arrival is make the home safe. Then we trace the fault, show you what failed, and give you the repair price before any repair work starts.

How power restoration goes
- 1.You tell us what is dark, what still works and whether the neighbors have power.
- 2.The electrician makes the home safe, then tests from the service through the panel to find where power stops.

- 4.The repair is made, each circuit is brought back and tested, and any reconnection the utility has to make is arranged with them.

Common questions
Straight answers. If you do not see yours, call us and ask.
Most likely one of the two legs feeding your home has been lost. It can be on the utility's side, at the transformer or the line to your home, or on yours, at the meter base, the main breaker or a service connection. We test at the meter and the panel to tell which, and if it is the utility's, we tell you so you can report it to them.
