A light that misbehaves comes down to one of four things: the bulb, the fixture, the switch or dimmer that controls it, or the wiring that feeds it. Changing parts until the problem stops is slow and costs more than it should. We test each in turn, find the one that failed, and repair that.

LED lighting changed the common faults. An LED that buzzes or flickers is often paired with a dimmer made for older bulbs, or has a driver inside the fixture that is wearing out. In older fixtures the usual causes are a socket whose contact tab has flattened, or wire insulation baked brittle by years of heat from incandescent bulbs. When a fixture is past repair, we tell you, and a replacement is priced as a separate choice.

What light fixture repair covers

  • Lights that flicker or dim on their own
  • Fixtures that will not turn on
  • Buzzing or humming LED fixtures
  • Failed sockets and worn contact tabs
  • Dimmers that do not suit LED bulbs
  • Loose or heat damaged connections in the fixture box

How light fixture repair goes

  1. 1.You tell us which lights are acting up, when it happens, and what bulbs they take.
  2. 2.The electrician tests the bulb, the fixture, the control and the circuit to find which one has failed.
  3. 3.You get one flat price for the light fixture repair and approve it before work starts.
  4. 4.The failed part is repaired or replaced, the connections in the box are made tight, and the light is run through its switch or dimmer to confirm the fault is gone.

FAQ

Common questions

Straight answers. If you do not see yours, call us and ask.

Most often the dimmer was made for incandescent bulbs and cannot control the small load an LED draws. A dimmer rated for LED, with bulbs marked dimmable, usually ends it. If the flicker continues after that, the driver in the fixture may be failing.
