Emergency lights and exit signs sit unnoticed for years and then have one job on the worst day a building has: to light the way out when the power fails. A unit that only works on paper is no use then. Each one is placed to light the path, wired so it senses the loss of power in its area, and tested on battery before we leave.
Fire inspectors look for exit signs at each exit and along the path where the way out is not plain to see, egress lights that come on when tested, and a record of the monthly and annual tests. We install new units, replace failed batteries and fixtures, and add signs where a remodel moved a wall or a door, so you go into the inspection knowing where the building stands.
What emergency lighting installation covers

The Life Safety Code calls for a functional test of battery emergency lighting every month, for at least 30 seconds, and a full 90 minute test once a year, with a written record of each. Most units have a test button for the monthly check.
