What the work involves

How is electrical work done in a senior living community without moving residents?

Outages are planned with the administrator, kept short, and critical loads stay on while noisy work happens at agreed times. Because many communities keep refrigeration, medical equipment and key systems on standby power, we install and maintain the emergency lights, transfer switches and generator connections, and test them on schedule.

Emergency lighting and standby power

Corridors, stairs and exits need emergency lighting that works when the power fails, and many communities keep refrigeration, medical equipment and key systems on standby power. We install and maintain the emergency lights, transfer switches and generator connections, and test them on schedule.

Power for call and security systems

Nurse call, access control and camera systems need dedicated, reliable power. We provide the circuits and connections to the system supplier's requirements; the systems themselves are designed and programmed by their suppliers.

Kitchens and laundry

Commercial kitchens and laundries carry heavy, steady loads and their own GFCI and equipment rules. We wire equipment from its cut sheets and plan the work around meal and laundry schedules.

Common and resident spaces

Lighting in corridors and common rooms matters more where residents have limited sight or mobility. We repair and retrofit lighting so walkways and rooms stay evenly lit, and keep outlets and fixtures in good repair.

Planning outages around residents

Residents cannot be sent home for a shutdown. We plan outages with the administrator, keep them short, keep critical loads on, and do noisy work at agreed times.

What goes wrong, and how we prevent it

Emergency light batteries that fail their annual test, generators that have not been run under load, and overloaded circuits in older wings are the common problems. A maintenance agreement puts the testing and the infrared scans of loaded equipment on a schedule, with a written record.

Permits and inspections

Inside the city limits, the electrical permit goes through the City of San Antonio Development Services Department, under the 2023 National Electrical Code the city adopted effective May 1, 2025. We pull the permit and meet the inspector. State licensing rules for the facility may add their own requirements, which the administrator confirms with the agency.
