New equipment, powered and started

Industrial electrical installation for new equipment in San Antonio plants

New equipment lands on a date, and the power has to be waiting for it. We work from the manufacturer's sheets to have the circuit, the disconnect and the connection ready before the machine arrives, then make the final connections and support the startup.

What the work involves

How do you get power ready before new industrial equipment arrives?

Start from the manufacturer's sheets and install the circuits, raceways and disconnects before the machine lands, so only the final connections remain on the day it is set. A load calculation first shows whether the panel, feeder and service can carry the new equipment, and motors are fed and protected under NEC Article 430.

Start from the equipment sheets

Each machine's sheets give its voltage, phase, full load current, the circuit size, the connection and whether it needs a dedicated disconnect. We read them before anything is ordered, and flag anything the building cannot supply as it stands.

  • Voltage, phase and current from the sheets
  • Circuit and disconnect sizing
  • Gaps in the building's supply flagged early

Will the service carry it

A load calculation shows whether the panel, the feeder and the service can take the new equipment. If not, the panel or service work is planned first, with CPS Energy brought in when the service has to grow.

Motor and drive circuits

Motors are fed and protected under NEC Article 430, with a disconnect within sight of the motor where the code requires it. Variable frequency drives get the line side protection and the motor side cabling their maker calls for.

Rough-in before the equipment lands

Circuits, raceways and disconnects are installed before the equipment arrives, so the day it is set only the final connections remain. That keeps the riggers, the equipment representative and the electricians from waiting on each other.

Final connection and startup

We make the final connections, check terminations and rotation, and support the startup with the equipment's representative. Inside the city, the work is permitted and inspected through the City of San Antonio Development Services Department.

  • Final terminations
  • Rotation and continuity checks
  • Startup support

What goes wrong, and how we prevent it

Equipment installs stall when the voltage on the sheet does not match the building, the panel is full, or the disconnect ends up behind the machine. Reading the sheets first, checking capacity before the order and placing disconnects on the drawings prevent all three.

FAQ

What do plant managers ask about installing new equipment?

Straight answers. If you do not see yours, call us and ask.

The equipment's sheets with its electrical requirements, where it will sit, and the delivery date. A walk of the panel and the route finishes the picture.
