  • Commissioning. Load testing, exercise schedule, and confirming the thing actually starts and transfers when the power drops rather than the first time you need it.

The two line items that move the number most

Gas supply is the first. A standby generator has a demand figure the manufacturer publishes, and the existing line to a house sized for a furnace, a water heater and a range is frequently not adequate to add it at full output. Correcting that can mean a larger meter, a larger run, or both, and it is the item most likely to make a quote you were not expecting.

Distance is the second.
