New plants and expansions

Industrial electrical construction for San Antonio plants and expansions

A new plant or an expansion is a sequence: temporary power, underground, the service, distribution, equipment feeds, and the day the equipment is energized. We work from the design professional's drawings and fit our work into the GC's schedule so the electrical is never the reason a date slips.

How the job runs

What are the stages of industrial electrical construction?

Industrial electrical construction follows a sequence: temporary power, underground, the service, distribution, equipment feeds, and energizing. We bid from the design professional's drawings, coordinate the new service with CPS Energy from the start, and fit our work and inspections into the GC's schedule. Stamped drawings come from the engineer of record, never from us.

The bid, from the drawings

We bid from the design professional's drawings and specifications, and the bid says what is included, what is assumed and what is excluded, including long lead equipment like switchgear and transformers. Stamped drawings come from the engineer of record, never from us.

  • A written bid from the drawings
  • Long lead equipment named early
  • Exclusions stated plainly

Temporary power and underground

The site needs construction power before anything else, and the underground conduit for the service and the site feeders goes in before the slab and the paving. Getting the underground right the first time is what keeps the slab from being cut later.

The service and the utility

The new service is coordinated with CPS Energy from the start: the transformer location, the service size and the date the utility can connect. Utility lead times are often the longest in the job, so the request goes in as soon as the design allows.

Distribution and equipment feeds

Switchgear, panelboards and transformers are set and fed, then the feeds to each piece of equipment are run from the equipment schedule, with disconnects where the code requires them. Motor circuits follow NEC Article 430 and the equipment's own sheets.

  • Switchgear, panels and transformers set and fed
  • Equipment feeds from the schedule
  • Disconnects where required

Inspections and energizing

Inside the city, the work is permitted and inspected through the City of San Antonio Development Services Department under the 2023 NEC the city adopted effective May 1, 2025. Inspections are scheduled with the GC so they never hold up the next trade, and equipment is energized in the order the startup plan sets.

What goes wrong, and how we prevent it

Industrial jobs slip on late switchgear, a utility date nobody requested early, underground in the wrong place, and changes priced after the fact. Naming long lead items in the bid, requesting the utility early, checking the underground against the drawings before the pour, and pricing every change before it is done prevent them.
